I am black and I want to fosterIn this second of our diversity in foster care blog articles we have looked at why black people have an important role to play in the fostering community.

Fosters carers from the BAME community provide high quality foster care for kids from all different types of backgrounds. Fostering to Inspire positively welcomes all applicants from these communities. Black foster carers are part of this and provide our community with excellent short and long term fostering placements.

We have worked with many black couples and single people who have fostered children and have found they have many desirable qualities which a foster carer needs. Some of these include:

  • Good listening skills and a caring nature
  • Flexibility
  • Patience and stability
  • Providing a safe environment
  • A willingness to support and encourage a child

Fostering to Inspire is a diverse fostering agency that offers support to children from different backgrounds, and this is the same for our foster carers. A strong commitment to family and community is frequently associated with people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and cultures. These positive characteristics, matched with the qualities mentioned above, can provide an ideal fostering environment in which children can thrive.
