Can a divorcee foster?

I am divorced and I want to fosterFoster carers come from many different backgrounds and a carer’s relationship status does not determine whether you can become a foster parent. If you are a good listener, determined and have an ability to empathise then fostering could be for you.

If you were to talk to us and say “I am divorced and I want to foster” then our team would respond to you like any other call we take of that nature. We would talk you through your options and what it would take to become a foster carer with us.

Just because you are divorced will not in any way count against your fostering application. The advice we would give would be to think through all your options as caring for a child is a big commitment.

It will be important that you would not be overstretching yourself, can handle work challenges and to think whether you would be upsetting your children if you have any from a previous relationship.

If you are a divorcee and would like to speak with us about fostering, or are simply looking for more information, we would be delighted to hear from you. If you decided that fostering was something that you wished to do, then Fostering to Inspire would be on hand to support you at every stage of your fostering journey, from the first telephone call to the first day with your new young person and onwards from there.
