Discovering Potential: Achieving Success

Fostering in Barnsley and its surrounding areas with Fostering2Inspire

Barnsley is located in South Yorkshire, halfway between Leeds and Sheffield. The town is surrounded by several smaller settlements, which together form the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley.

With our base being a little over 10 miles away in Wakefield, we have a well-informed understanding of the area. The town is a great location for fostering children and is rooted in industrial heritage. Barnsley is rich in history and offers an abundance of attractions for residents and visitors. It has a character all of its own, with a proud history of coal mining and glassmaking. Moreover, it is located in an attractive pastoral setting, which forms the backdrop for ancient villages steeped in their own local traditions, customs and culture.

Barnsley borders on the Peak District, and offers some excellent places to visit and to relax in beautiful natural surroundings. Nearby there are the impressive ruins of Monk Bretton Priory, founded in the 12th century, the fascinating Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the glorious landscaped gardens at Wentworth Castle. Our team is always looking out for family activities which you can participate in with your foster child or children. For example there is Cannon Hall Farm, where children can meet the animals and play in a terrific adventure playground.

Barnsley town centre is that of a thriving market town and is packed full of independent shops, well-known high street stores, cafes, pubs and restaurants. It is also home to one of the best markets in South Yorkshire, which offers a vast and varied selection from farm shops, with local produce to bring out the “foodie” in everyone who visits. A walk through the Victorian Arcade and George Yard area provides a delightful trip back in time to the Barnsley of old, with cobbled paving, tea rooms, a traditional Irish bar and delicious bakeries to experience.

Culturally, Barnsley also has much to offer. You can watch a performance at the Lamproom Theatre, view fine art at the Cooper Gallery or call in at the Experience Barnsley Museum, where over 90% of its artefacts are contributed by people living and working in the Borough. Furthermore you can take in exhibitions and events at the majestic Cannon Hall Museum, set in its Park and Gardens five miles west of the town.

All this, together with Barnsley’s family friendly funfairs and craft fairs makes it the perfect place for fostering children and for creating magical memories for adults and children alike.
