Discovering Potential: Achieving Success

Fostering in Halifax and its surrounding areas with Fostering2Inspire

Halifax is located in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale, in West Yorkshire. Since the 15th century this town has been the centre of woollen manufacturing. Well worth a visit is the Piece Hall, a Grade I listed building in the centre of Halifax. It was built as a cloth hall for handloom weavers to sell the woollen cloth "pieces" they had produced. It opened in January 1779, with 315 separate rooms arranged around a central open courtyard. The Piece Hall underwent a £19 million 3-year restoration project that was completed in 2017.

For a wonderful experience for all the family, Eureka, The National Children’s Museum, is the place to go. It is the only fully interactive museum totally dedicated to children aged 0-11 anywhere in the UK. There are over 400 interactive exhibits and six different zones each with its own theme. You can find out how music is created, experience the world of work, take over a child-sized town, and step inside giant body parts. And the good news is that you only have to pay once to get in free for a year with an Annual Pass.

Halifax offers great opportunities for outdoor activities too. People's Park was created in 1857 and donated to the people of Halifax by Sir Francis Crossley. Situated at the western edge of Halifax, the 12.5 acre site has been awarded Green Flag status and is in the heart of a conservation area and includes a children's play area, a bandstand, glorious water features, fine statues and much more besides.

Being situated on the south-eastern side of the South Pennines, Halifax is close to a landscape that offers its residents a chance to wander the moors, explore the countryside and take a break from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Located only 4 miles from the M62 motorway also makes this town perfect for commuters, as well as offering a spectacular rural escape for those who delight in nature and the outdoor life.

From the Ogden Water Country Park and Nature reserve to the industrial museums and art galleries, as well as a terrific variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants, Halifax and its surrounding area offers a fantastic variety of things to do for all the family.
